Abstract

1,220,720. Shaped shirts. MR. HARRY (MENSWEAR) Ltd. 5 Nov., 1969 [20 Dec., 1968], No. 60753/68. Heading A3V. A shirt with a back part shaped with two vertically aligned inverted box pleats in the centre of the back, one extending upwards from the waist, and the other reaching to the bottom of the shirt skirt. A shirt constructed thus will permit freedom of movement for the wearer around the hips and shoulders while gripping the waist. No stitching is visible externally, and no cutting of material is required in the pleat construction. The pleats are formed by folding the cloth as in Fig. 3 and securing each with a line of stitching 6 parallel to the fold edge. Two return lines of stitching 7 are included at the ends of the pleats, as in Fig. 2, between the stitching 6 and the fold edge. Below the point B the lower pleat is open as is the upper pleat above the point A. The upper pleat 9 is reduced gradually in fold width to nothing at its upper end. As the pleats are always within the shirt they are hidden and the outside of the shirt between A and B is flat.
