Abstract
1,220,558. Railway points heaters. VAPOR CORP. 20 Jan., 1970 ,[29 Jan., 1969], No. 2631 / 70. Heading E1G. [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] In a railway points heater, a burner 15 mounted adjacent to the fixed rail 11 associated with the points rail 13 is supplied with fuel by a supply line 20, and has a flue gas distribution tube 16 extending downwardly from the burner beneath the fixed rail 11 and into the space 19 defined by adjacent sleepers 18. A duct 17 is arranged between the sleepers such that it extends along the sleepers, and has open ends 24, 25 lying beneath the points rails 12, 13. The flue gas distribution tube 16, which has holes 23 in the discharge end, extends into the duct 17 so that flue gases are distributed along the duct, and flow out of the open ends 24, 25 of the duct, thus heating the points rails 12, 13. Several burners may be used in series, and covers 27 may be mounted on the outside of the rails 10, 11 to retain the hot gases and to protect the burner assemblies. A lighter 22 is provided which serves as a pilot device, and may be ignited by suitable means. .
