Abstract

1,220,331. Electro-depositing chromium composite. BRISTOL AEROJET Ltd. July 29, 1968 April 27, 1967], No.19379/67. Heading C7B. A composite coating of a matrix of Cr or Cr alloy with ceramic, cermet or metal particles is electro-deposited, e.g. on to metal or graphite, from a Cr plating bath containing the particles, e.g. of ZrB 2 , which has been worked for more than 8 hours. The bath may contain 250 g/1 CrO 3 , 2.5 g/1 concentrated H 2 SO 4 and 100 g/1 ZrB 2 (e.g. 3-5 micron particle size). Preferably the article to be treated, e.g. to provide abrasion and oxidation resistance, already has a Cr flash deposited on it from a Cr plating bath without particles. Further articles may be plated from the same bath on a continuous basis without further "dummying-in". The particles are preferably maintained in suspension by admitting air to the bath as described in Specification 1,218,179.
