Abstract
1,219,178. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. TOYO KOGYO K.K. April 11, 1968 [April 17, 1967], No. 17671/68. Heading F1F. To remove without damage the oil seal rings from their circular grooves in the end faces of the piston of a rotary-piston machine, e.g., an internal combustion engine, of the kind comprising a three or more - sided piston mounted on the eccentric of a shaft for planetary rotation within a housing having an internal periphery with one less lobe than the piston has sides, at least one slot 10, Fig. 3, is formed in the piston end face adjacent to one or both sides of the circular 7b in which the oil seal ring 8b is mounted and urged outwardly by a spring 9b. On removal of the piston 1 from its housing the spring 9b urges the seal ring 8b outwardly of its groove 7b to permit the insertion of a tool 14 through the slot 10 and the levering of the seal ring out of its groove. The piston end face may have a plurality of concentrically arranged oil seal rings and in this case a slot 10 or slots 10 are arranged between adjacent grooves.
