Abstract

1,218,121. Heat-treating laminates. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. 20 May, 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 24000/68. Heading B5N. A laminate comprising a layer of thermoplastic resin bonded between metal sheets is heated at between 50‹ C. and the melting point of the resin, without using pressure, to improve the adhesion of the layers. The metal may be aluminium or an alloy thereof and the resin may be polyethylene or polypropylene. The treatment may be performed in air or water, e.g. by immersion in a water bath for at least 30 minutes. In an example, the laminate is formed by pressing the layers with interposed foils of ethylene-acrylic acid-acrylic ester copolymer. The laminate may be shaped.
