Abstract
1,217,983. Work benches. KAWASAKI JUKOGYO K.K. 7 Feb., 1969 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 6897/69. Heading B4X. A jig assembly (Fig. 4) comprising a number of jig elements 1 upstanding from a support, includes actuating means for moving the elements 1 and control means for controlling the actuating means for effecting movement of the elements in accordance with input signals to the control means. In the embodiment shown each jig element comprises a pin attached to the piston 11 (Fig. 3) of a piston-and-cylinder arrangement to or from which pressure fluid is supplied via a valve 4C according to signals derived from a punched tape 2 fed through a reading device 3A of a control device 3, whereby the height of each pin is increased or decreased or its position altered, as required, relative to the support so that all the elements together form, by virtue of the varying dispositions of their tips above the support, a surface shaped to correspond to the shape of the surface of work 7, 7A to be supported by the elements. A feedback monitor 6 is provided for each element 1. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the jig elements are supported by a swivel table whose inclination is controllable by the control means. In a modification (not shown) the jig elements may be moved in groups. The valve 4C may be operated by a torque, hydraulic, induction or impulse motor.
