Abstract
1,217,416. Zinc base alloy: powder metallurgy. INTERNATIONAL LEAD ZINC RESEARCH ORGANIZATION INC. July 5, 1968 [July 7, 1967] No. 32249/68. Headings C7A and C7D. A particulate zinc base alloy consists apart from impurities, of Zn and 0À02-1À5%Ti with optional additions of one of Al 0À3 - 6% Cr 0À01- 0À5% and Ni 0À1 - 3À5% The particles have a fine grain Zn matrix dispersed with fine grain intermetallic compounds, exhibit high ductility and tensile strength and may be made by melt fragmentation (e. g. by air atomization). The particles may be formed into coherent bodies by processes such as compacting, rolling and extrusion and examples use isostatic compaction, followed by forward extrusion at 350- 430 ‹F. In an example an Al containing alloy is heated at 660‹F. for 30 minutes and cooled in air.
