Abstract
1,217,166. Valves. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [27 June, 1967], No. 29627/67. Heading F2V. A double-acting valve for vacuum systems has a pair of opposed apertures 3, 4 in parallel walls 1, 2 provided with guide rails 13, 14 along which rollers 11 on parallel valve closure plates 7, 8 run. The plates 7, 8 are interconnected to move together and are urged apart by springs 9 so that when the plates are aligned with apertures 3, 4 the wheels 11 run down ramps 14 on the guide rails to allow the springs 9 to urge the plates into sealing contact with seatings around the apertures. Stops 16 in the form of rail extensions and operable by rotatable spindles 17 may be positioned to prevent either or both of the plates abutting their respective seating. The chamber between the plates may be evacuated if one of the plates is held on its seating by pressure differential in the event of a vacuum breakdown on the opposite side of the other plate.
