Abstract

1,234,788. Valves. SPEEDWELL RESEARCH Ltd. 11 March, 1969 [29 March, 1968], No. 15218/68. Heading F2V. In a butterfly valve having a closure plate 13 mounted on a spindle (14, Fig. 1, not shown), which spindle (14) is sealed with respect to the bore (11) of the valve housing (10), the closure plate has disposed about its periphery a generally H-shaped resilient member 25 and is adapted to co-operate with a seating 12 formed as part of the bore (11). The resilient member innermost groove 24 receives the closure plate outermost periphery whilst the two flange portions 28 and 29 defining the member outermost groove 27 act as a scraper and sealing member respectively. In operation, flange 28 engages seat 12 prior to flange 29 engaging the same, and so serves to remove from seat 12 any foreign material 30 present on the seat, such action ensuring proper sealing contact of flange 29.
