Abstract

1,217,150. Valves. ELLIOTT & GARROOD Ltd. and L. F. SOANES. 30 Oct., 1968 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 50266/67. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve member 24 co-operates with a resilient seat 30 of rubber or polyurethane having a groove 32 and held in place by pins 34a. A recess in the seat or, as shown, in groove 33 accomodates deformation of the seat when the valve is closed. Spacers 29 locate the valve member radially and the control spindle 21 is guided in bearings 17, 18 located on opposite sides of 0-ring 19. Fluid pressure may be applied behind the seat to enhance the closure. A cap 42 prevents inadvertent operation of control knob 25. The seat may be bonded in the groove. In Fig. 3, not shown, a separable bonnet (44) is provided and a gland sleeve (45) is positioned above the 0-ring beneath bearing sleeve (46).
