Abstract

1,216,738. Coated fastener. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. 26 June, 1968, No. 30360/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Division F2] A fastener is provided on its locking surface with a locking element comprising a coherent and adherent film of phenoxy resin. In the case of fasteners such as nuts and bolts, the phenoxy resin is applied in powder form to the threads and then heated to a temperature of about 450‹F which causes the resin to fuse, flow and adhere to the threads. On cooling, a plastics film preferably in the shape of a band across a portion of the threads is formed. The resin preferably has a softening point between 200‹F and 350‹F and the adhesion of the locking element may be improved by treating for thirty minutes after fusion at a temperature of between 450‹F and 500‹F. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,067,917.
