Abstract

A member 1 for connecting tubes 7, 8, forming part of a conduit through which rodlike articles are fed, is so constructed that its ends can be pushed over the ends of the tubes to connect the tubes and has an intermediate portion forming a continuation of each of the tubes, the inner surface of the portion being substantially flush with the inner surfaces of the tubes; at least the intermediate portion of the member consists wholly of transparent material. As shown, packing elements 9 and washers 10 ensure air-tight connections with the tubes, and the inner surface of the intermediate portion converges in the intended direction of flow of the articles.
