Abstract
1,215,864. Electro-forming perforated foil. BUCKBEE-MEARS CO. June 13, 1968 [March 25, 1968] No.28115/68. Heading C7B. Perforated foil e.g. mesh or screen is made by continuously feeding an endless metallic belt 10 containing a plurality of holes filled with dielectric material (25), Fig.2 and 3 (not shown) through an electro-plating bath to receive deposits of metal layers on both sides of the belt acting as a matrix cathode, and stripping off the deposited metal layers 21, 22 after the belt leaves the bath, and preferably after rinsing, e.g. in a spray tank or cleaning bath 16, and passing through pinch rollers 20. As shown, the belt is driven by rollers 11, is connected cathodically through contact rollers 14, and passes around idler rollers 15 between anode racks 13 in the plating tank 12. The belt may be of stainless cold-rolled or Mo-steel, or Ni; and prepared by photo-printing processes and chemical milling according to U.S.A. Specification 3,199,430 to form holes with other than straight-sided walls which are filled under pressure with the dielectric material, e.g. epoxy resin, P.T.F.E. or silicone rubber.
