Abstract
1,262,429. Electro-plating apparatus. USUI KOKUSAI SANGYO K. K. Feb. 27, 1970 [Feb. 27, 1969; Dec. 6, 1969], No. 9739/70. Heading C7B. A metal (e. g. steel) strip b is passed through a plating bath 4 between at least one anode 13 and at least one arcuate surface of resilient insulating material e. g. rubber or synthetic resin, while keeping the strip in intimate contact with the resilient arcuate surface, e. g. by imparting tension between the feed and discharge rolls 10, 11, so that only one side of the strip is continuously electroplated, the strip being guided into and out of the bath by at least two guide rolls 9 serving as cathodes disposed above the bath surface 4<SP>1</SP>. The arcuate surface may be constituted by a larger diameter guide roll 7 coated with a layer 6 of the resilient material and rotatably journalled at 8 for partial immersion in the bath, or by an endless belt (15) Fig. 8 (not shown) of the material similarly immersed. As shown, the strip passes in succession round a plurality of alternating guide rolls 9 and 7, with arcuate anodes 13 disposed concentrically below. The plating tank a has walls 1 defining end sumps 2 into which the plating bath overflows through ports 5. The plating bath may comprise 50-64g/l CuCN, 75-1OOg KCN and 6-17g/l KOH.
