Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to plate a strip rapidly with a large current, by jetting an electrolyte in close vicinity from curved electrodes divided in the circumferential direction of a roll to the surface of the strip passing along the circumferential surface of the rotating electric conducting roll to increase surface contact between the strip and roll.
CONSTITUTION: A rotating electric conducting roll 3 that is not dipped into an electrolyte has an electric conducting surface 12 narrower than the width of a strip in the central part of its surface layer and has its both ends sealed with a non-conductive material 13. A current flows through a contact surface between the surface 12 and strip 1. A hollw anode 4 closely opposite to the strip 1 passing along rolls 2, 3, and 2' is nearly parallel to the width direction of the strip and is curved in the longitudinal direction of the strip. If a plating liquid is supplied into the hollow part of anode 4, the liquid is jetted from a slit 5 in the direction of an arrow, and static pressure P is formed between the anode 4 and strip 1. Thus, contact surface pressure between the strip 1 and roll 3 is increased. Furter, if the anode 4 is insoluble, a gap between the anode 4 and strip 1 is maintained constant and thus the current density can be maintained stably.
