Abstract

1,215,814. Fire alarms. JOHNSON SERVICE CO. 19 Dec., 1967 [22 Dec., 1966], No. 57679/67. Heading G4N. [Also in Divisions G1, H1 and H3] In an ionization chamber detection apparatus in which two series connected ionization chambers 13, 14 (see Division H1) and an F.E.T. amplifier 11 are powered from the same low voltage supply 3 (10 v.-35 v.), the voltage at point 12 between the two ionization chambers 13, 14, one of which 14 is sensitive to the presence of smoke in the atmosphere e.g. from a fire and the other 13 is closed to the atmosphere, is applied to the control electrodes 18, 19 of F.E.T. 11. The F.E.T. 11 is arranged to be non- conductive in the absence of smoke but when the voltage at point 12 changes, due to the presence of smoke, the F.E.T. 11 conducts completing the power supply to unijunction transistor oscillator 9. Firing pulses are thus applied to the gate 8 of a Triac 7 over transformer 10 to cause the Triac to conduct and energize an audible alarm 6.
