Abstract

1298083 Smoke detectors TOKYO HOCHIKI K K 23 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968 3 May 1969 7 Nov 1969] 62602/69 Heading G1N [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] A transmitter P for an alarm system comprises an element OC, responsive to a change in a physical condition, an amplifier F1, A, means such as a multi-vibrator FMV for intermittently supplying power from a line l 1 , l 2 to said amplifier F1, A, to cause said amplifier to amplify the output of said element OC and means such as a thyristor SCR for allowing current to pass along said line l 1 , l 2 to operate alarm means L in a remote receiver, in response to change in output of said element OC. The multi-vibrator FMV preferably provides pulses of very small mark/space ratio so that the system is immense from most spurious signals. As described, a smoke detector comprises inner and outer ionization chambers IC, OC having a source of radiation material. The transmitter P is powered along the signal line l 1 , l 2 by a source E. Field-effect transistor F1 is only energized when a short-duration pulse is supplied by FMV (or by a tunnel diode circuit) to its source electrode. The voltage at point T is such that F1 only becomes conductive during the presence of smoke, and then turns on the transistor A, which triggers thyristor SCR, energizing the alarm relay L. The amplifier supply is stabilized by Zener diode ZD. A diode bridge may be connected to the line terminals so that the transmitter P may be operated from lines of either polarity or from A.C. The ionization chambers may be replaced by sensors of temperature, moisture &c.
