Abstract

1,144,624. Fire detectors. VIGIFEU. Feb.6, 1968 [Feb.9, 1967], No. 5834/68. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G4] A fire detector comprises test and reference ionization chambers 3, 6 mounted in a housing 1 together with the associated circuitry including a temperature sensitive transistor mounted on a printed circuit board 11. Sampled air passes through a domed grid 2 and out via holes 1a in the body. In an alternative arrangement Fig.3 (not shown) the grid 2 may form the "wall electrode" of the ionization chamber. Detector circuit, Fig.2. The reference and sample ionization chambers 6, 3 are connected in series across a supply to vary the bias on the base of a (temperature sensitive) field effect transistor 14, whereby change in ionization due to smoke particles, or increase in temperature of the transistor, causes it to conduct and fire thyristor 16 energizing an alarm lamp 18. Zener diode 19 maintains the circuit for the detection system if the lamp fails. Fire detection system Fig.2 2 comprises a plurality of such detectors energized from a supply providing Π50 volts relative to earth through a three core cable. A broken cable is detected by a line relay 24 normally energized by current through line terminal resistance 22. Alarm relay 25 is actuated by increase in current when a fire detector operates.
