Abstract
1,215,664. Improving the colour of phosphonic acid. FREEPORT SULPHUR CO. 10 June, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 29468/69. Heading CIA. The colour of phosphoric acid produced by the wet process is improved by mixing either the components used to produce phosphoric acid or the acid subsequent to its production with one or more additives comprising inorganic hypochlorites, chlorites or chlorates. The concentration of the additives is from 0-5 to 25 pounds per ton of phosphorous pentoxide contained in the produced phosphoric acid. The phosphoric acid is treated with the additives after the digestion step and before the filtration step in its production. Specified additives include sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, sodium chlorite, sodium chlorate, ammonium chlorate and potassium chlorate.
