Linear reciprocatory motions of slides 12, 14, having a predetermined phase relationship, are derived from a rotary crank 10 and a plurality of toggle linkages, each linkage having one extremity located on a fixed pivot axis A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, the other extremity forming the output and, with the exception of the last linkage in each series, being connected to the knee of the next toggle linkage. A link 22 couples a crank pin 16 to the knee 26 of the first toggle linkage 28, 30 in the series A associated with the slide 12. Similarly, a link 24 couples the crank pin 16 with a knee 50 of the first toggle linkage 52, 54 in the series B associated with the slide 14.
