In a manually operated ribbon-inked platen printing machine for printing prices on labels, a number-printing apparatus is carried at the lower end of a vertically movable member 20 the descent of this member to affect the printing of a label lying face upwards on an impression table 20 being effected by a spring-loaded handle 26 the return of which automatically causes feed rollers 10 and 11 to rotate sufficiently to pull a predetermined amount of inking ribbon across the table 20 from a spool 6 in readiness for the next printing operation of the machine. The depth of printing stroke of the numbering- apparatus may be adjusted by a vertically movable threaded rod 22.
