Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A label printing device includes a spring- biased striker 33 for effecting printing which is initially set by label strip feeding means and released for a printing stroke at the end of a feed stroke. The label strip 12 is fed from a magazine 11 past a printing station 31, pressuresensitive labels 12b being separated from a backing strip 12a at a folding edge 14. The strip is fed by rollers 16, 17 engaging the separated backing strip 12b, the roller 17 being rotatable by a trigger 23 acting on a driving segment 20 coupled by a ratchet and pawl mechanism 19, 21, 22 to the roller 17. A cam 39 formed on the segment 20 engages a spring 38 during a feed stroke to tension the spring, and at the end of the feed stroke a releasing member 40 attached to the segment 20 disengages a pawl 36 from a stop 37 to permit the spring 38 to press a platen 35 and hence the label strip 12 against settable print wheels. The feed stroke is limited by an adjustable stop 28 defining the rest position and a fixed stop 27 defining the end of feed stroke position. A roller 46 is provided to apply the labels 12b to an object, the roller also acting to advance an ink ribbon 41 between a supply spool 42 and a take-up spool 44.
