Abstract

1,214,059. Boots &c. CLARKS Ltd. 25 March, 1969 [25 March, 1968], No. 14701/68. Heading A3B. An insole having one or more peripheral recesses corresponding to the lasting margin is made by cutting the insole from a sheet of material which is resiliently flexible and which is non-resiliently compressible when heated, and forming the recesses on the underside of the insole by heating and locally compressing the material. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) an insole 10 for a sandal is provided with recesses 11 for the strap ends and a recess 12 for the shank stiffener by placing the insole between the electrodes of a high frequency heating device, one of the electrodes having projections corresponding to the recesses 11, 12. The sandal is formed by bonding the strap ends in the recesses 11 using a hot melt adhesive, the strap ends lying flush with the insole. In a second embodiment (not shown) the upper is first lasted to the insole and the lasting margin and insole are placed between the electrodes of a high frequency heating device which heats the lasting margin and presses it into the insole.
