Abstract

1,213,994. Dyes containing cyclic imide groups. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 44473/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises dyestuffs containing a group of the general formula wherein A is a tetravalent organic radical, the carbonyl groups forming with the atoms in A and the imide nitrogen atom a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, D is a dyestuff radical e.g. monoazo or anthraquinone and n is at least 2. A may be aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aryl, heterocyclic or a combination of these. They are prepared by condensing a diamine H 2 N-D-NH 2 with an acid A(COOH) 4 or an anhydride or cyclic imide thereof preferably in an inert solvent e.g. dimethylformamide, o-dichlorobenzene, triethylamine or acetic acid. The dyes give yellow, red and green shades in paints and synthetic materials e.g. P.V.C., polythene, polystyrene and cellulose acetate.
