Abstract

1,213,993. Dyes containing cyclic imide groups. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 44472/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises dyes free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups and. having the general formula wherein each R is halogen and may be different, B is a coupling component radical and D is an optionally substituted divalent aryl radical. Preferably, R is chlorine, D is optionally substituted phenylene and B is a radical of the acetoacetarylamide, 2 - hydroxy - 3 - naphthoic acid arylamide or 5-pyrazolone series. They are prepared by (a) reacting one mole of a tetrahalophthalic acid or anhydride or cyclic imide thereof with an amino azo compound of the general formula, H 2 N-D-N = N-B preferably in an inert solvent or (b) coupling a coupling component H-B with a diazotized amine of the general formula The dyes give yellow, orange, red and maroon shades in paints and synthetic polymers e.g. P.V.C., polythene, polystyrene and cellulose acetate.
