An electric plug fitting comprises an insulating body 10 and a plurality of metal contacts 12 which are to be connected to respective leads of a cable, the body having a hollow bore 11 for the cable entry, and a dividing means 14 for channelling each lead so that its bared end engages a corresponding stall 13, and a screw ring 20 which clamps each wire simultaneously in its stall. The embodiment shown, for 3-core cable, comprises three contacts 12a mounted on a body member log which is bonded to the threaded hollow body member 10a, and clamping is effected through a member 21 which has three co-operating contacts 12b which clamp the wire when ring 20 is tightened. Grooves 11a in the bore 11 lead to respective stalls and the separate cores may be retained in them by a spring loaded disc sliding in the bore and having corresponding notches in its periphery. The body member 10a comprises three slots 31 in which are mounted clamping jaws 32 which are operated by a second screw ring 30 in the chamfered portion 36 of each jaw to make pointed noses 34 firmly engage the outer insulation of the cable. The complete connector forms a cartridge which may fit into a housing with the contacts of the cartridge engaging contacts on the housing and connected to standard plug pins (Figs. 8, 9, not shown). A retaining latch may be provided in the form of a spring loaded earth pin. In this form the cartridge may incorporate a fuse in the live lead. A warning light may be provided. Two cable carrying cartridges may be connected by an adapter in which both are engaged and which contains contacts to interconnect them (Fig. 10, not shown). Alternatively, the cartridge may itself be formed with pins to act as a plug.
