[Also in Division F2] A coupler assembly for connecting a hose terminal 11 to an outlet, e.g. of oxygen, &c., comprises a base 12, 13 forming a longitudinal chamber 20 and a tubular socket 26, which is removably inserted in the chamber 20 to normally clamp a thrust washer 52 against the surrounding wall of a valve port 22 which separates the chamber 20 into a rearward end which accommodates a poppet valve 43 and a forward end the outlet of which is closable by a primary valve plug 36, a compression spring 57 being constrained between the thrust washer 52 and the poppet valve 43 to urge the latter against the rear wall 23 of the rearward end of the chamber 20. The thrust washer 52 follows the tubular socket 26, under the action of the spring 57, during withdrawal of the socket 26 from the chamber 20 the poppet valve 43 closing the valve port 22 under the influence of the fluid pressure of a supply medium from an inlet pipe 25. The base comprises an end cap 14; mounted in the rear wall 15 of a receptacle box 16 and a sleeve 13, the valve plug 36 having a passage 40 which is closed when the plug is located in its forwardmost position, a seal being effected by O-rings, and the head of the poppet valve 43 having flats 45 to provide flow passages between the valve and the wall of the chamber 20. When a plug 71, Fig. 1, is inserted into the socket 26, the valve plug 36 is pushed open, the plug 71 being placed in communication with the medium supply pipe 25. The hose terminal carries a latch 72 which is adapted to engage a shoulder 63 on a latch arm 61, which is biased by a spring 66, and is pivoted in a bracket 60 secured to a cover 17 for the box 16, the latch 72 being releasable by depressing an end 64. In a modification, Fig. 7, not shown, comprising an assembly which is not flush with the wall, the end cap (80) has an inlet port (82) which slidingly receives a tubular extension (85) of the poppet valve (84). An arrangement is also described in which a pair of coupler assemblies, generally similar to Fig. 2 are arranged in back-to-back relationship.
