Abstract

1,212,635. Coke ovens. HEINRICH KOPPERS G.m.b.H. 24 June, 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 31813/69. Heading F4B. In a method of coking coal in a horizontal coke oven, the temperature profiile of a heating wall or walls is repeatedly determined during the coking period and compared at each stage with a predetermined model, the heating of said wall or walls being adjusted to cause the measured profile to conform with the model. The heating adjustments may be repeated in subsequent coking periods by a programming device. Alternatively, a set of model temperature profiles is stored in a memory to be compared with measured profiles in one or more ovens appropriate to the stage of coking reached, the deviation for an oven being used to adjust the heating system in a sense required to nullify the deviation. A group of ovens may have the heating regulated in accordance with a measured profile for one oven in the group. Control may conveniently be accomplished by control of the proportions of inert gas, air or recycled waste gases in a mixture constituting the fuel gas.
