Abstract

1,212,517. Staying masts. DELL QUAY GROUP Ltd. 29 Aug., 1968 [2 Sept., 1967], No. 40222/67. Heading B7V. Means for staying a mast 2 comprises a spreader member 4 which spreads a stay, a portion of member 4 being engaged within the mast. In Fig. 2, sockets 8 are inserted in opposite holes in the mast and have their ends 10 bolted together so that flanges 12 bear against the outer surface of the mast. The end of the member 4 is inserted into the socket and is then rotated through 90 degrees so that pins 20 engage the rear surfaces of ribs 18. Rotation of the member 4 is then prevented by a stay under tension passing through the free end of the member 4. In Fig. 4, a plug 24 having a longitudinal slot 26 through which the stay 6 passes is inserted into hollow member 4 and retained against rotation by pin 28. In Fig. 5 (not shown) a tube (30) extending through the mast contains a bobbin (34) with heads (42), the stays having reduced portions engaged behind the heads.
