Abstract
1,211,938. Cellular rubber. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 11 April, 1968 [12 April, 1967], No. 17481/68. Headings C3C, C3E and C3P. Natural and/or synthetic rubber is produced by heating a mixture comprising foamed rubber latex, vulcanizing agent and gelling agent, which has been added to the foamed latex, by means of high-frequency dielectric heating to below 100‹ C. so that there is no evolution of steam, thereby gelling the foamed rubber latex which is then vulcanized in the absence of the dielectric heating. The foamed rubber may be produced in the presence of potassium oleate as foaming agent. In examples a styrene-butadiene copolymer latex with optionally a polyisoprene latex or an aluminium silicate clay dispersion is beaten up in a churn to produce a foam to which is added as vulcanizer a mixture of colloidal sulphur, diphenylguanidine, zinc diethyldithiocarbamate, zinc-2-mercaptobenzothiazole, 2,2 - methylene - bis - (4 - methyl - 6- tert. butyl-phenol), zinc oxide, bentonite and the sodium salt of alkylated naphthalene sulphonic acid, together with sodium carboxymethylated cellulose and an ethyl chloride/ formaldehyde/ammonia reaction product, and as gelling agent sodium silicofluoride: the foam is fed to an open mould, placed between condenser plates, heated and the gelled foam is vulcanized with steam to produce a cellular article.
