Abstract
1,211,849. Drying or curing coated foil. ALUMINIUM FOILS Ltd. 8 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11406/67. Heading F4G. [Also in Divisions C7 and H5] A process of heat treating aluminium foil (e.g. an annealing process or a process for drying or curing coatings such as epoxy resins, inks or adhesives on the foil) comprises passing the foil in electrical contact with a set of three or four spaced electrically conducting rollers while a heating current is passed, in the case of three rollers, between the intermediate roller and each of the two outer rollers and, in the case of four rollers, between each of the two intermediate rollers and its corresponding outer roller, the relative positions of the rollers being adjustable so that the paths of the foil, in the case of three rollers, between the intermediate roller and each outer roller and, in the case of four rollers, between each intermediate roller and its corresponding outer roller can be varied to adjust the resistances and therefore the temperatures in the two lengths of foil through which current passes.- In Fig. 2, the foil 1 is conveyed over electrically conducting rollers 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, the rollers being connected to the secondary winding 4 of transformer 5. Rollers 1a, 1b are adjustable laterally and are earthed. The rollers may comprise aluminium shells with steel inserts at each end.
