1,211,615. Girders. H. YANAI. 2 July, 1968 [3 July, 1967], No. 31530/68. Headings E1G and E1W. A girder is comprised by an outer pipe 1 divided into at least two longitudinally extending spaces by an inner member 2 which in one example is a pipe and in another, Fig. 6 (not shown) is of V-section, in linear contact with the outer pipe over at least part of the length thereof, one of the spaces in the pipe being filled with concrete 4 which absorbs compression due to bending load. The relative positions of the inner member and the mass of concrete may be inverted on opposite sides of the points D of contraflexure of bending moment. A bridge, Fig. 7, comprises girders according to the invention arranged side-byside as in Fig. 8 (not shown) to span between a pairs of piers 5 on which the ends of the girders are located and where they are welded between steel plates 7, 8. A pavement 9 is applied over the girders and plates 8.
