Abstract

[Also in Division G1] A guiding device for a tool e.g. a small powesaw or for a marking instrument comprises a straight edge 1 connected to a plate 2 by parallel rods 3 so that the edge 1 can be moved parallel to the plate, a stock 7 secured to the plate 2 by bolts and wing nuts 8, 9 allowing the angle between the plate 2 and stock 7 to be adjusted, and an anchor bar 11 secured to the stock the anchor bar having a clamp 12 enabling the device to be clamped to a workpiece 13. The parallel movement between the straight edge 1 and plate 2 may be effected by rotation of a knob 4 with a cog wheel 5 meshing with a further cog 6 at one end of one of the rods 3. Alternatively a cam device or an eccentrically mounted wheel may be used. Locking devices are also provided to hold the straight edge 1 in its adjusted position. Mating guide means, e.g. a groove or flange, may be provided on the straight edge and the saw to facilitate its use. By means of the nuts 8, 9 the straight edge 1 may be set at any desired angle on the workpiece 13 and by moving the edge 1 parallel to the plate 2 in incremental steps between each movement of the saw along the edge, a desired groove may be cut in the workpiece 13.
