Abstract
120,941. Ochsner, J. Aug. 29, 1917. Scavengers' carts.-To prevent the escape of dust in emptying one refuse receptacle into another or into a furnace, the hinged lid of the receptacle to be emptied becomes coupled to the sliding lid of the collecting receptacle when the one receptacle is hung on to the other so that, upon turning the receptacle to be emptied over on to the collecting receptacle, the lids are automatically opened. Fig. 1 shows the receptacle 1 of a dust cart with a slide 9 running in guides 7 on the hinged cover 3. The dustbin 12 is adapted to be hung on to a bar 10 on the cart and a forked member 14 projecting from the hinged lid 12' of the bin then embraces a projection 11 on the slide 9. Upon turning the bin over on to the receptacle 1 about the bar 10, the lid 12' of the bin pushes back the slide 9 and is itself opened. The lid 12<1> may have a fastening means comprising a ball 42, Fig. 4, on the lid adapted to engage a. reinforcing wire 40 on the rim of the bin. This fastening is disengaged when the bin is hung on the receptacle 1 by the arm 14 striking the slide 9 and a tooth or tappet mav be provided on the back of the projection 11 so as to be engaged by the arm 14 and effect the engagement of the fastening upon returning the bin after emptying. The cart receptacle 1 is provided with a journal 21 and the hinged lid 3 thereof with an arm 22 to enable this receptacle to be emptied into the hopper of a refuse combination furnace in a similar manner to that described for the dustbin
