UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
SAMUEL LEOPOLD KINSBRUNER, OFFRIEDENAU, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE STAUBSOHUTZ, GESELLSOHAFT MIT BESCHRANKTER HAFTUNG, OF
BERLIN, GERMANY.
VEHICLE FOR COLLECTING HOUSEHOLD REFUSE OR OTHER MATERIAL.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 614,009, dated November 8, 1898.
Application filed December 4,1897. Serial No. 660,790. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL LEOPOLD Kins.- BRUNER, of 59 Cranachstrasse, Friedenau, Prussia, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Means for Collecting Household Refuse or other Dusty Material, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the collection or the transfer from one receiver to another of refuse or other dusty material in a manner entirely free from the diffusion of dust, and has for its object to simplify the means required as much as possible.
In the annexed drawings there is shown a collecting-car as a form of construction of this invention.
Figure 1 shows a side view of the car. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 shows the closing parts of the car on a larger scale. Fig. 4. is a plan view of the collecting-box.
The car or the receptacle thereon is provided at the sides and behind with receivingopenings, which are closed outward by means of the hereinafter-described parts. In the wall of the car or in the projections thereon forming the receiving-opening there are arranged frames 1, which are turnable toward the interior of the car and each of which is connected with the cover 2, hinged to the receptacle or car, by means of links or levers 3. A piece 4: of the cover 2 is formed of canvas or otherwise flexibly for the purpose of obtaining greater mobility. On the frame 1 there is jointed on the top a closing-lid 5, turnable inward, which on its lower slightlyprojecting edge is provided with a slot 6, Fig. 3. The lid 5 is rigidly secured to the levers or links 3 to turn in unison therewith. The frame 1 is provided, also, with hooks 8 for sus pending the collecting-box or garbage-box 7. These hooks, however, may also be provided on the car-body itself.
The collecting-box or garbage-box '7 is provided with the usual hinged lid 9, which carries on the front a bow-shaped projection 10. Around the box 7 there is fixed a flange 11, of angle-iron or the like, in which in the form of construction illustrated there are provided the eyes 12, serving to receive the hooks 8.
The above-described device is used and operates in the following manner: The box 7 to be emptied is hung with the eyes 12 into the hooks 8, Fig. 3, and turned upward. As soon as the box has made a revolution of ninety degrees its flange comes in contact with the frame 1 and lies tightly against the same, while the projection 10 of the box-lid 9 engages with the slot 6 of the closing-lid 5. As the garbage-box 7 is turned farther inward the frame 1 and the cover 2 are pushed back in the manner shown in Fig. 4, whereby the box-lid 9 and the lid 5 open automatically in consequence of their connection, so that the refuse in the box 7 can fall into the interior of the car-receptacle. The end position in which the parts rest on the stop 13 is shown in Fig. 3 in dotted lines. When the box 7 is turned back, the parts 2 4 1 5 are again brought back automatically into their previous position. As the receiving-opening is always closed outwardly'either by the box 7 itself when said box is turned over or by the lid 5 when the box is out of engagement with the frame 1 no dust can escape when the garbage-box is emptied.
The tight closure of the box 7 against the frame 1 is much assisted by the provision of the flange 11 on the box,
It mayalso be mentioned that the construction hereinbefore described in its application to a wagon or car may also be used for stationary collecting-receptacles.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a receptacle having an opening for receiving refuse or other dusty material, of a frame 1 being turnable toward the interior of the receptacle and having movable connection with the cover 2 of the same, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a receptacle having an opening for receiving refuse or other dusty material, of a frame 1 being turnable toward the interior of the receptacle, of a movable cover 2 jointed to said frame by suitable means, and of a closure-lid 5 hinged to the frame, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination with a receptacle having an opening for receiving refuse or other dusty material, a turnable frame 1, a movable cover 2 connected therewith, a closure-lid 5 hinged to said frame and havinga slot 6, of a collecting-box 7 provided with a hinged cover 9 having a bow 10, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
4:. The combination with a receptacle having an opening for receiving refuse or other dusty material, a turnable frame 1 having hooks S, a movable cover 2 connected with said frame, a closure-lid 5 hinged to said frame and having a slot 6, of a collecting-box 7 provided with a hinged cover 9 with how 10 and having a laterally-projecting border 11, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
5. The combination of the receptacle having an opening, a movable frame secured adjacent to the opening and adapted to engage a garbage-box or the like, and a movable cover secured to a stationary part of the receptacle and also connected to the movable frame, to close the gap between said frame and the cover of the receptacle.
6. The combination of the receptacle having an opening, a frame hinged adjacent to said opening and adapted to engage a garbage-box or the like, a closing-lid secured movably to said frame and having a catch to engage the cover of said box, and connections between said frame and lid whereby the lid with the box-cover will be moved away from the frame and box when the latter are tn rn ed.
7. The combination of the receptacle having an opening, a frame hinged adjacent to said opening, and adapted to engage a garbagebox or the like, a closing-lid secured movably to said frame and adapted to cover the top of said box, and operative connections between said frame and lid whereby the lid will be moved away from the frame and box when the latter are turned.
8. The combination of the receptacle having an opening, the movable frame adjacent to said opening, the movable cover secured to a stationary part of the receptacle and also secured to the movable frame, the lid movably connected to the frame, and operative connections from the cover to the lid to cause the latter to move away from the frame when the latter is turned.
9. The combination of the collecting-box having a hinged cover having a projection, the receptacle having an opening and adjacent securing devices for the collecting-box, the movable frame adjacent to said opening and adapted to engage the collecting-box, the lid hinged to said frame and having a catch to engage the projection on the box-cover, the movable receptacle-cover arranged to close the gap between the stationary part of the receptacle and said frame, and operative connections between the said receptaclecover and the lid, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses, this 22d day of October, 1897.
SAMUEL LllOlOLl) KINSBRUNER.
