Abstract
290,389. Simpson, H. R. March 1, 1927. Scavengers' carts adaptable also for the conveyance of other material such as road metal comprise a series of receptacles b which normally are not removable and which are provided with lids b<1> adapted to be opened at the charging and discharging positions, the receptacles being adapted to be traversed to the storing position within the cart when filled and thence to the discharging position when required. The receptacles b are traversed by travelling chains d driven bv a drum g and are guided by means of their trunnions c on guide rails e. As shown in Fig. 1 the receptacle in the filling position is held by plates n and the lid opened by a lever l, l<1> operated by a foot treadle m. All the receptacles as filled are traversed into the storing position and when it is desired to discharge them they are successively brought to the discharge position and tipped. As shown, a cam lever k is rotated causing the receptacle to tip the lid being opened and held open by means of the guides j, j<1>. Each receptacle as traversed by the chain d comes in contact with the lever k and is tipped, the lid automatically closing as the receptacle again reaches charging position. The receptacles may be traversed in a horizontal plane and the body may be mounted on a turntable.
