A fastener assembly comprises a ribbed plate having flanged ribs extending from one face to provide undercut slots between adjacent ribs, a metal plate having rows of headed bosses extending from one face thereof, the bosses being formed by tabs struck from the plate and disposed so as to be engageable in the slots of the ribbed plate, the heads of the bosses being sufficiently wide in a direction transverse to the ribs to lodge in the slots and be retained by the flanged ribs. The fastener 18 may be employed to secure a trim panel 15 to the body panel 13 of a motor vehicle. The first part 21 of the fastener comprises a rectangular plate of resilient plastics having ten ribs 25, the free edges of which are formed with heads so that between the ribs the under cut slots 26 are formed. Tapered webs 27 are engageable in holes 30 in the body panel 13, the holes 30 being wider at their ends to permit some rotation of part 21. The second part 22 has sixteen tabs 34 struck out from its rectangular sheet metal body, and these engage alternate slots in part 21 when the parts are pressed together. Prongs 31 are punched back from the part 22, the prongs diverging slightly to anchor the part 22 to the soft foundation board of the trim panel when driven into the latter. The first part 21 may be provided by cutting off a length from an extrusion of appropriate cross section.
