Abstract

1418268 Keys CRASNIANSKI FRANCE SA 5 March 1974 [17 Sept 1973] 9932/74 Heading E2A A flat key comprises a shank 1 with an elongated head 2, having a width equal to or slightly greater than that of the shank, engaged in a slot 5 formed in a separate operating head 4. The latter is made of a moulded plastics material which is sufficiently flexible to enable the shank to be forced into the slot with consequent deformation of the head and the head and shank are rigidly held together by the elastic or frictional forces caused by deformation -of the head. As shown, the slot 5 and tail 2 of the shank are wedge-shaped and the tail may be serrated, Fig. 2 (not shown). In modifications, (a) there are projections (9) (9') formed on the sides of the slot (10) which engage in recesses (13), (13') on the edges of the shank (12), Fig. 3 (not shown), alternatively, the projections are provided on the shank, (b) elastic tongues 14, 14' Fig. 4, are moulded on the edges of the slot 15 and which snap into notches 18, 18' in the shank 17, (c) rectangular openings 22, 22' on either side of the slot (20) in the head (19) receive the arms (23), (23') of a staple (24) which arms engage in notches (25), (25') in the edges of the shank 21, Fig. 5, (not shown), (d) a transverse slot (30) opens into the slot (28) and receives a plate (31) which engages in a notch (32) in the edge of the shank (29), Fig. 7, (not shown), (e) the head 33, Figs. 9 and 10, has a bore 34 extending through the slot 35 and for reception of a stud 38 attached to an elastic web 39, the stud engaging in a hole 37 in the shank, (f) the head is in two parts (40) (40') which are secured together by complementary beads and grooves (46) (46') and (47) (47') and have slots (41) (41') in which are received projections (44) (44') on the shank (45), Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), and (g) the head (48) is made of thermoplastic material which is displaced into notches (52), (52') formed in the edges of the shank (49), Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown).
