Abstract

1,209,277. Aluminium alloy racket with T- shaped neck joint. YONEYAMA RACKET K.K. 12 March. 1969 [8 July, 1968], No. 12951/69. Heading A6D. [Also in Division C7] A games racket, particlarly for badminton, comprises a tubular frame 10 and tubular shaft 20 both made of an aluminium alloy and a T-shaped connecting joint 30 made of a metal softer than the alloy of the frame, the ends 13 of the frame 10 and the end of the shaft 20 being inserted into orifices 31 and 33 of the T-joint 30. A plurality of parallel concave grooves 12 is formed at the ends 13 of the frame tube 10, and a corresponding plurality of projecting strips 32 is formed inside the orifices 31 of the T-joint 30, the arrangement being such that the strips 32 fit tightly into the grooves 12. A bonding agent is applied to secure the ends of the frame 10 and shaft 20 to the T-joint 30. Stringing holes (11) are made in the frame tube 10, and a handle 40 covered with leather is provided. The upper half of the frame 10 has a concave recess, (14) in which the gut stringing lies. Preferably, a zinc alloy is used for the T-joint 30; heat treatment and properties of the alloys are described. In an alternative embodiment, the concave grooves are formed inside the orifices 31 of the T-joint and the projecting strips are formed on the ends 13 of the frame 10.
