Abstract

1,208,961. Photographic silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Feb. 29, 1968 [March 2, 1967], No. 9804/68. Heading G2C. A photographic gelatino silver halide emulsion containing at least 50 mole per cent of bromide and at least 10 per cent based on the total binder of a synthetic polymeric binder which is compatible with gelatine and which has a glass transition temperature of less than 20‹ C., is coated on to a support and the coated layer is dried in less than six minutes. The inclusion of the polymeric binder allows the layer to be dried rapidly without substantial fog formation. Polymeric binders used are copolymers of alkyl acrylates with acrylic acid or sulpho-alkyl acrylates, which polymers may further contain acrylic esters containing side chains having active methylene groups, such as acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate and cyanacetoxyethyl methacrylate.
