Abstract
1,208,268. Thermal switches. KENNETH E. BESWICK Ltd. 15 Dec., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966; 28 Nov., 1967], Nos. 56500/66 and 54183/67. Heading H1N. [Also in Division G1] A heat-responsive switch for breaking an electric circuit, has two contacts 3, 4 biased to a normally open position held in closed position with an end of one contact turned over an end of the other contact by a member 5 made of such a material that, at a predetermined temperature it deforms or collapses to allow the contacts 3, 4 to assume their normally open positions. Member 5 is made of a thermoplastic material, e.g. polystyrene or low melting point alloys and waxes. Contacts 3, 4 may be made of hardened beryllium copper. Apertures 14, 15 in the casing allows air circulation through member 5. The upper part 1 of the housing may be made of transparent polycarbonate and the lower part 2 of coloured polycarbonate. The switch may make a secondary contact after opening. Member 5 may be of other shapes, preferably but not necessarily hollow, e.g. U-shapes or V-shapes.
