Abstract

1,208,123. Improvements in rotors for slicing machines. T. K. SUMMERS and J. W. FOSTER [trading as ROTOR MOTION CO.]. 4 Nov., 1968 [2 Aug., 1967], No. 35502/67. Heading A4C. A slicer rotor, for use in a machine for slicing potatoes in the production of potato crisps &c. comprises a lower part (1), Fig. 2 (not shown), removably attached to an upper part 2 which is formed by a flat circular plate with a smoothly machined upper surface having three regularly spaced parallel sided radial slots 3, each slot being cut away at one side to accommodate a blade 4. Each blade comprises a flat rectangular plate with a cutting edge along one long side, parallel to the slot 3, the upper surface of the blade lying flush with the upper surface of the plate 2. The lower part (1) of the rotor consists of a spider having six arms 10, 11, and a central upstanding boss 9 fitting into a complimentary recess in the underside of the upper part 2 and adapted to be engaged by a vertical drive shaft. The arms 10 are located midway between the slots 3 and are secured by bolts (13) screwed into the underside of the part 2 and the intervening arms 11 are located beneath the side edges of the slots 3 co-operating with the blades 4. Directly above each arm 11 in the upper section of part 2 are two recesses 14 which are engaged by complimentarily crosssectioned heads of bolts 15, which extend through bushes (16) and are secured at their lower ends by nuts (17). Also embodied on the upper part 2 are three slits 8, cut through the thickness of the plate, leading from the inner end of the slots 3 to a position vertically above the arm 10, and on tightening the nuts (17) the plate 2 is distorted, bending about the arm 10, the distorted portion being bounded by the slot 3, slit 8 and the section of the plate 2 vertically over the arm 10. As the section of the part 2 is drawn downwards, the thickness of the slice is increased, and loosening the bolts (17) cause the thickness to be decreased.
