Abstract

1300188 Slicing potatoes LAMB-WESTON Inc 1 July 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 30952/71 Heading A4C A potato slicer 10 has a rotatable impeller 18 within a shell 16, and a stationary knife 22 attached to the shell so that for each revolution of the impeller a slice 36 is cut from a potato 38, and the slice is then cut into strips 46 by crosscut knives 24 mounted on a rotatable spindle 42 whose axis of rotation 44 is parallel to the cutting edge 50 of the stationary knife 22. To produce crinkle-cut chips the cutting edges of the knives may have an undulating pattern, and for guiding a cut potato the outer surface 56 of the stationary knife, the inner peripheral surface 20 of the shell 16, and the inner surface of the adjustable slicing gate 32 may also be formed with corresponding undulations. Adjusting means 34 are provided on the slicing gate for altering the thickness of the slices 36. If the undulations of the blades are regarded as sinusoidal, the crosscut knives are arranged so that the ridges thereon are 90 degrees out of phase with the ridges on the stationary knife, and so that adjacent crosscut knives are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. A pusher plate 72 pushes the potato around the circumference of the shell 16. The trailing end 48 of the stationary knife may be chamfered at its outer edge 58.
