Abstract

1,207,403. Shaping and sealing sack mouths. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. 1 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 16840/68. Addition to 1,178,551. Heading B8C. In a machine for shaping the mouth of a sack by holding it in grippers while it is supported at a filling station and moving them apart horizontally to stretch the mouth so that opposite side walls contact each other, one or both of the gripper jaws is or are equipped to heatseal the material in the region therebetween at the time that the pairs of jaws are pressing together on the sack. In a preferred embodiment, gussetted heat sealable sacks are used, a conventional heat-sealing being effected on the double thickness portion of the mouth after the quadruple thickness gussetted areas have been heat-sealed between the jaws.
