Abstract
1,207,081. Rolling mills. FOX INDUSTRIES. 21 Jan., 1969 [4 March, 19681, No. 3483/69. Heading B3M. A body 13 of metal is rolled between rolls 11 and 12, at least one of the rolls being subjected to a vibrational force introduced between the bearings, or at the ends, of the or both rolls. Each roll to be vibrated incorporates a core 15, a layer of magneto-strictive material 14, and an outer sleeve 18. Vibrations are induced in the roll using a frequency generator 20 and a coil 19. One or more rolls in a two-high or four-high mill may be vibrated in this manner. In place of the magnetically generated vibrations, transducers may be coupled directly to the roll ends.
