Abstract

1,206,503. Contacting liquids. KERNFORSCHUNG m.b.H. GES. FUER. 24 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 19358/68. Heading B1F. [Also in Division G6] Two immiscible phases of different specific gravity, such as an aqueous liquid containing uranium and plutonium and an organic extracting liquid for one of the metals, enter mixing chamber 1 by inlets 5 and 6. After mixing by vane pump 7 they pass to rotor 2 where centrifugal separation by vanes 15 allows discharge of heavy phase at 29 to 34 26, 27 and light phase at 28, 30, 31 and 33. The position of the rotor can be relative to the drive means adjusted by rings 16. A return flow for liquid in the passages is given by pipe 20 and an air seal given by compressed air through bore 37. (For Figure see next column)
