Abstract

1,205,981. Reciprocating pumps. TOWLER HYDRAULICS Ltd. June 11, 1968 [June 14, 1967], No.27504/67. Heading F1A. A reciprocating pump assembly comprises a primary pump A, and a hydroculically actuated secondary pump B having a plunger 8, the larger end face of which is connected to the cylinder of the pump A, the smaller end operating in a pump cylinder. Fluid displaced by the pump A raises the plunger 8. "Boost" oil is supplied under pressure to a part 11 and to the pump cylinder by way of ducts and a valve in the plunger 8, which is thereby returned towards the lowest position, in which it closes part 11 and is thus brought to rest. An electric motor Fig.3, (not shown) drives both the primary pump A and a "boost" supply pump; with no pressure in the system at the outlet of pump B the full delivery of A is fed into the system through a check valve, and a valve controlling the "boost" oil supply is in the closed position. At a predetermined pressure "boost" oil to the part 11 is admitted by the valve and B starts to pump, the output of A serving solely to reciprocate B. The system pressure continues to rise until the pressure driving B is fully discharged through the relief valve.
