Abstract

1,205,758. Tungsten compositions. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI R. T. Sept.5, 1967 [Sept.14, 1966], No.40500/67. Headings C7A and C7D. A tungsten composition, for making incandescent filaments which do not suffer from arc-discharging, comprises:- Tl 0À0001-0À1% K up to 0À0002% as a natural impurity, and optionally residual amounts of an oxygen containing Si and Al compound or an oxygen containing Si and Ga compound, corresponding to amounts known per se to be necessary to form a large-crystalline structure, the balance, apart from impurities and incidental elements, being tungsten. The compositions are made by mixing a Tl compound with tungsten oxide with a ratio Tl2O3/WO3 of 0À0001-0À05, reducing to metal powder in hydrogen, pressing the powder into rods which are sintered, hammered and drawn into wire which is formed into the filaments. The appropriate amount of Si, Al and Cga compound may be added to the initial powder to form largecrystalline tungsten bodies.
