Abstract
1,205,472. Spray producers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORP. 25 Jan., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 4016/68. Heading B2F. [Also in Division C7] Nozzle assemblies for controlling the weight and distribution of a coating applied to a moving substrate by the projectionof a stream of fluid across the coated substrate prior to solidification of the coating, comprise an elongated nozzle formed by a header section 30, an orifice section 34, a convergent throat section 32 therebetween, and fluid diffusing means 40 disposed between said header and orifice sections, said orifice section terminating in an orifice of non-linear configuration which permits the nozzle to be positioned so that fluid projected therefrom against the substrate traverses a greater distance from the centre of the orifice to the substrate than from the edges thereof, and means for supporting the nozzle in such position. The nozzle may be curved in the plane of the fluid path, or curved in a plane normal to the fluid path with the plane of curvature inclined to the substrate. The apparatus is useful in the coating of substrates, e.g. steel strip, and zinc, aluminium, tin or lead by hotdipping.
