Abstract

1,204,752. Electro-static copier. STROMBERG DATAGRAPHICS Inc. Nov.5, 1968 [Nov.6, 1967], No.52376/68. Heading G2H. An electro-static copying machine has a continuously operating copy sheet conveyer 33, a roll 11 from which sheet material is fed in continuous form to the conveyer and sheet sensing means 76, 77 to activate a sheet cutting mechanism 23 to cut the sheet a predetermined distance from the leading edge thereof. Operation is possible in a small copy sheet mode, a large copy sheet mode or a continuous strip mode, the mode of operation being automatically determined by a code on a microfilm 46, to be copied, in the form of dots Fig.3 (not shown) the presence or absence of which is sensed by photo-electric devices (not shown). The conveyer 33 comprises perforated belts so that the copy sheet may be held upon the conveyer by suction means 42, 64 but the sheet may also slide along the belt during cutting when the sheet is momentarily stopped. In the single sheet modes the leading edge of the paper is sensed by one of the sensors 76, 77 to operate the cutting mechanism, the trailing edge is then detected by sensor 76 to operate a flash lamp 47 so as to expose the charged sheet with an image of the microfilm 46. The imaging means is adapted to automatically adjust the size of the image according to the mode of operation. The sheet moves on to a developing station 54 which is activiated by the leading edge of the sheet on passing a sensor 55. Toner is applied by a magnetic brush 56 from a container 57 replenished by means of a removeable toner disperser 58. In the continuous strip mode of operation the sensors 76, 77 are inactivated and the flash lamp timing is controlled by means of a timing wheel 127 which engages the surface of the copy sheet 13 and has a marker 130 so that on each rotation a sensor 131 supplies a pulse to the flash circuit.
